Its switch provides a powered lead or ground lead for testing components, continuity, positive and negative circuits, open circuits, and shorts without using jumper wires or wasting fuses. The probe is on the back of the device.
A front LED displays battery voltage; with the car running, an alternator check should show a rise from about 12.6 to 14.0 volts. The built-in 8-amp breaker helps prevent overload and overheating, though backfeeding a circuit can still cause damage. A 20-foot cable reaches a trailer harness from a connection at the vehicle battery. The tool is listed for 12V and 24V electrical testing.
