The SB-5000 brings 2.4 GHz radio control to Nikon’s Creative Lighting System, enabling Advanced Wireless Lighting across up to six groups at distances up to 98' without needing line of sight. It also supports traditional optical triggering, so you can mix older optical units with radio-controlled flashes for flexible multi-flash setups. As the first shoe-mounted flash to include an internal cooling system, the SB-5000 can deliver over 100 consecutive full-power flashes without overheating—ideal for intensive on-location or studio work. Compact yet powerful, it offers a guide number of 113' at ISO 100 and 35mm (180' at 200mm). The tilting head ranges from -7 degrees to 90 degrees and rotates 180 degrees to facilitate a wide variety of bounce angles; built-in diffusion expands coverage to 14–24mm (FX). Manual power is adjustable from 1/1 to 1/256, and flash exposure compensation is -3 to +3 EV in 1/3 steps. You get full sync options including slow, high-speed, 1st, and 2nd curtain modes for creative control. The unit runs on four AA batteries with recycle times of 1.8–2.6 seconds; faster recycling is available with the optional SK-6 Power Bracket or SD-9 Battery Pack. Usability features include a backlit LCD, an Info button, and an auxiliary PC terminal. i-TTL metering is supported, and Unified Flash Control via Camera Control Pro 2 lets you customize settings and perform firmware updates directly through the camera.
