No rating yet(0 ratings)This Black, size L poster from Snapshots of the Past reproduces the historic print “Volcans : troisième et derniere epoque, environs de Clermont,” engraved by E. Collin, at 16" x 20". Listed under Posters, it is part of a range of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives for home decor.
Snapshots of the Past was founded in 2001 and says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproductions. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for a White House redecoration project in 2008.
The source notes that lithography was invented in 1796 and made inexpensive mass production of prints possible. A Library of Congress pilot project called American Memory began in 1989 and laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections on American cultural history.
The reproductions use fine-art archival paper and pigmented inks, intended to last long enough to pass down. The range also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, suggested for display at home, in a study or at work, or as gifts.
