Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project.

The listing also describes the development of inexpensive mass-produced posters after lithography was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; that project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.

The listing suggests historical prints, including holiday posters and early aerial city views, for display at home or work or as gifts.
