Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.

Its home decor prints reproduce historical maps, photographs and other images restored from the Library of Congress archives. Its customers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, allowed posters to be mass-produced inexpensively. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995. That program digitizes selected Library collections emphasizing the complex history of American cultural heritage.

The reproduction prints use respected brands of fine-art and archival paper. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. The range includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, along with early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.

Retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
