Snapshots of the Past makes home decor reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers and tens of thousands of internet customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced prints inexpensive. The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot in 1989; that project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage.

The company uses fine-art and archival papers; prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last for generations. Its other reproductions include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, offered for display or as gifts.
