Snapshots of the Past restores historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives for home decor. [Satisfied Customers] Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008. [American Memory] Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass production of posters possible. In 1989, the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program launched in 1995. The program digitizes selected Library collections that emphasize the complexity of American cultural heritage. [Museum Quality] The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper from respected brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can be enjoyed for a lifetime and passed down through generations. [Great Gifts] The collection includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, as well as some of the earliest aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. These retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
