The historic print listing reads “Popular Price Theatre presents The dictator,” a farce by Richard Harding Davis, and also names Pratt. It lists 2 and a 16 x 20 inch size. Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photographs and prints restored from Library of Congress archives.
Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its customers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet buyers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project.
The prints use fine-art archival paper and pigmented inks and are intended to last a lifetime and be passed down. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass production of posters possible. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning the complexity of American cultural history.
The company's range includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. The prints can be displayed at home or work or given as gifts.
