Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of poster prints. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerned with American cultural heritage.

The company's range includes historical maps, photographs and prints, including old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Its retro-style posters are intended for homes, studies and workplaces and can be given as gifts.
