The company restores historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives as home decor reproductions.
Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of Internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.
Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced poster prints inexpensive. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage. The reproductions use fine-art and archival papers from respected brands.
Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down to later generations. Other available subjects mentioned include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
