Founded in 2001, it describes itself as the first company to offer those images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography was invented in 1796, making inexpensive mass-produced posters possible.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, begun in 1995 to digitize selected collections concerning American cultural history. The company's prints use archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last for generations. Its range includes holiday posters and early aerial views of US cities for display or gifts.
