The company restores historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives for use as home decor.

Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced poster prints inexpensive. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections about the complex history of American cultural heritage.

The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper from respected industry brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Other available subjects include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.

The prints can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
