Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photographs, and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using archival paper and pigmented inks. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008. Lithography was invented in 1796; the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, and the National Digital Library Program began in 1995. That program digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.

The seller also suggests displaying vintage holiday posters or early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco as home or workplace decor or giving them as gifts.
