Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives using archival paper and pigmented inks. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproductions; it reports sales through over 200 bookstores and other retailers and to tens of thousands of online customers.
It was selected as a vendor for a White House redecoration project in 2008. The source also notes that lithography was invented in 1796, that the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, and that the National Digital Library Program began in 1995 to digitize selected collections on American cultural history.
The source suggests historical posters, including holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display at home or work or as gifts.
