Snapshots of the Past restores historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives for reproduction on fine-art and archival paper with pigmented inks. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass-produced prints possible.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural heritage. The brand also offers retro posters, including holiday designs and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display or gifting.
