Pennington Lawn Care crown vetch seed, sku-324639419, UPC 608887456653. Sow at 10 Lbs per acre, or 1 lb per 4000 square feet. Crown vetch (Coronilla varia) is a creeping perennial in the pea family, native to Mediterranean Europe, southwest Asia and northern Africa.

It was brought to the United States for erosion control during the 1950s and has also been used as livestock forage, green fertilizer and ornamental ground cover. It is naturalized in all but four states and is planted along roadsides and rights of way to stabilize banks. It also grows in disturbed areas, open fields, waste ground and streamside gravel bars.

It tolerates dry to moist soil, prefers sun and cannot tolerate full shade. Its stems grow 2 to 6 feet long, forming clumps. Each compound leaf has 15 to 25 oblong, odd-numbered leaflets measuring 1 to 2 inches. Clusters of pinkish-white flowers bloom from May through August, then form narrow, flattened seed pods. Seeds can remain viable for up to 15 years, and rhizomes can extend 10 feet.
