Recommended cleaning sequence for optical lenses: begin by blowing away loose particles, then gently brush, and finish by wiping. Use a blower or bulb (never blow with your mouth) to remove surface debris. If dust or grit remains, carefully brush with a clean, dedicated lens brush. For stubborn contaminants, lightly moisten lens tissue with xylene and wipe the surface with gentle strokes. To treat moldy or hazy optics, use lens paper dampened with a mixture of absolute alcohol and ether; apply sparingly and limit contact time to prevent liquid seeping into the lens and causing corrosion. For lenses contaminated with oil, clean after each use: first remove the bulk of the oil by wiping once or twice with dry lens tissue, follow with two wipes using xylene-wet lens tissue, and finish with one final dry tissue wipe.
