Royal Australian Mint Silver Elephant sku-1441852195
No rating yet(0 ratings)This 2022 Royal Australian Mint Australia Zoo Sumatran Elephant Brilliant Uncirculated coin is a Silver Collectible Coins and Bullion release. It contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver, has a $1 face value and comes in a protective capsule. Worldwide mintage is limited to 25,000.
The obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II and the face value; the reverse shows four adult Sumatran elephants, the inscription "AUSTRALIA ZOO SUMATRAN ELEPHANT," and the metal content and purity. The coin is backed by the Australian government and is the third release in the Australia Zoo bullion series, following Sumatran tiger and cheetah releases in gold and silver.
The Sumatran elephant, native to Sumatra, is the smallest Asian elephant subspecies and is critically endangered, primarily because of habitat loss, fragmentation and poaching. The Royal Australian Mint, in Canberra, also makes Australia's circulating coins.
It opened in 1965 as the country's first mint that was not a branch of The Royal Mint; Australian coins were previously struck at The Royal Mint's Sydney, Melbourne and Perth branches. The mint also releases domed proof, lunar and limited-mintage bullion coins with themes including history, astronomy, animals and the Chinese zodiac. SKU: sku-1441852195. UPC: 461441852199.
