Senior Lecturer Angela Smith Female Book sku-32980366

Senior Lecturer Angela Smith's Women Drummers: A History from Rock and Jazz to Blues and Country is a hardcover in Music Books with a Female designation. In 1942, drummer Viola Smith argued in Down Beat that women could hold their own at jam sessions.

Drawing on archival research and interviews with more than fifty female drummers across more than eight decades, the book examines their work, the discrimination they faced and the history of women drummers from pre-biblical times through the modern era. It covers rock, jazz, blues and country, including how gender stereotypes have obscured women's contributions. SKU: sku-32980366.
