Most hard drive PCBs contain essential information stored in a ROM memory chip; this ROM data is required for the drive to function correctly. The ROM chip or its contents must be transferred or written onto the replacement board. If the chip can be physically moved, a local computer technician can typically perform the transfer. For orders of $60 or more, we provide a complimentary adaptation service that covers either transplanting the ROM chip onto the new PCB or reprogramming the replacement board with the correct ROM data.
