Item is the hard drive circuit board (PCB / logic board) ONLY — the hard drive itself is not included. Because we carry a large inventory, the exact board shipped may vary slightly from the photo. This PCB is sold for hard drive repair and data-recovery purposes. Many WD circuit boards store unique drive-specific data in a ROM "memory" chip; that information is required for the drive to function correctly. Either the ROM chip must be physically moved to the replacement board or its contents must be transferred to the new PCB. If a chip transplant is feasible, a local computer technician should be able to perform the task. For purchases of $60 or more we provide a complimentary adaptation service, which includes either moving the ROM chip onto the new PCB or reprogramming the replacement board with the correct ROM data.
