No rating yet(0 ratings)Van Zyverden's Amadeus Candy amaryllis kit (Plant Bulbs, model 87352, SKU sku-600777534, UPC 030641873527) includes 1 White Hippeastrum (Amaryllis) bulb, a 6.5" round tabletop rattan basket, and a soil block. The 2 lbs kit contains what you need to grow the plant and can be given as a holiday gift. This easy-to-grow perennial blooms indoors in winter and grows 16-20" tall.
Dormant Bulb Size 26/28 cm. It grows in full sun to partial shade and is listed for USDA Hardiness Zones 8-10. The kit ships to the 48 contiguous US states and the District of Columbia. Amaryllis is a tender bulb that needs to be grown in a pot indoors throughout most of North America. To plant it, expand the soil block according to the included directions and fill the pot about halfway.
Set the bulb on the soil and fill around it, leaving the top third exposed and room in the pot for watering. Keep it at room temperature; exposure to sunshine helps keep it shorter. Rotate the pot frequently as the flower stalk grows toward the light to prevent toppling. You can discard the bulb after flowering or encourage it to bloom again next year.
For another bloom, cut the flower stalk just above the bulb's neck, leaving the foliage to help rebuild the bulb. Set the pot in a sunny window, water only when the soil is dry, and fertilize regularly. Once the danger of frost has passed, move the pot outside until fall frost kills the leaves. Remove the foliage, then store the potted bulb in a cool, dry place for 2.5 months without watering.
Resume the growing process afterward.
