Margherita Long's This Perversion Called Love: Reading Tanizaki, Feminist Theory, and Freud is a hardcover listed as Ages 9-12 Kids' Books under sku-235056928. Long examines sexual perversion in Tanizaki's aesthetic essays, cultural criticism, cinema writings and short novels from the 1930s, placing this widely translated Japanese author in contemporary feminist debates.

She argues that Tanizaki understands subjectivity in Freudian terms but is more critical than Freud about the possibility of love. In her reading, perversion entails the absence of even two sexes because femininity is defined only through its relation to man.

The book also critiques historicist and gender-focused approaches in Japanese literary and cultural studies and offers interpretations for readers of feminist theory and critical Asian studies.
