Jason A Heppler's hardcover book, listed under All Books as sku-5159841949, is The Environment in Modern North America: Silicon Valley and the Environmental Inequalities of High-Tech Urbanism, Series #9. It examines how Santa Clara Valley changed from fields and orchards into a high-tech industrial corridor after World War II.

Heppler looks at ideas of nature and place in Silicon Valley, the origins of American environmentalism, and debates about urban and suburban sustainability. Between 1950 and 1990, business and community leaders sought to combine green spaces and pleasant weather with industry, government-funded research and technology across the area from Palo Alto to San Jose.

The book describes how this vision drew people to the region while development brought environmental degradation, pollution, worsening health and greater social stratification. It also examines how ideas about nature and place can give elites influence over environmental decisions.
