From Rebel to Rabbi by Matthew Hoffman sku-35812760

Matthew Hoffman's From Rebel to Rabbi is a hardcover book listed under Religion & Religious Studies Books (sku-35812760). It examines how changes in Jewish culture during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries led Jewish theologians, historians, writers and artists to reconsider Jesus of Nazareth and use Christian motifs.

Drawing on history, theology, Yiddish literature, visual art and intellectual debates, Hoffman places these works in the cultural history of modern Jewish depictions of Jesus. He discusses how figures such as Sholem Asch and Marc Chagall portrayed Jesus as Jewish and used Christian themes to express modern Jewish experience.
