Most hard drive PCBs contain unique configuration data stored on a ROM (memory) chip; that data is required for proper drive operation. The ROM chip itself or its contents must be transferred to the replacement board or the new board must be reprogrammed with the correct ROM data. If you are not comfortable performing the transfer, a local computer technician can typically move the chip. For orders of $60 or more we provide a complimentary adaptation service that includes either transplanting the ROM chip to the new PCB or reprogramming the replacement board with the correct ROM information.
