Scarlet and Black is a 3-volume paperback set in All Books, listed under Kendra Boyd; Miya Carey; Marisa J Fuentes. Produced as Rutgers University marked its 250th anniversary, the set examines the university's history of enslaving and disenfranchising African Americans and dispossessing Native Americans.

Volume One documents how enslaved people built Rutgers campuses and served students and faculty, and how sales of Black people helped fund the institution. Volume Two covers the period from the end of the Civil War through WWII, the first Black students at Rutgers and New Brunswick Theological Seminary, and the earliest Black women to enroll at Douglass College.

Volume Three includes essays on Black and Puerto Rican students, the Black Unity League, the Conklin Hall takeover, divestment from South African apartheid, anti-racism efforts in the 1990s, and the Don Imus controversy involving the 2007 Scarlet Knights women's basketball team.

The work uses Rutgers's scarlet and black colors to evoke bloodshed along the Raritan River and the unpaid labor that sustained the university. The contributors offer the history to inform Rutgers's future.
