A rug pad reduces friction; vacuum a new wool rug 1-2 times weekly during its first few weeks, using low pressure without beater bars and moving with the pile. Shedding generally diminishes within 4-6 months or less. Clip loose ends and stray loops with scissors rather than pulling them.

Shipping creases usually settle; reverse-roll the rug to speed flattening, and put protectors beneath heavy furniture to avoid flattening the pile. Keep the rug out of direct sunlight or shade it with curtains, blinds or UV-blocking window treatments to limit fading.
