Designed for both stills and video, the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II delivers consistent high resolution across the zoom range through an advanced optical layout: two aspherical elements and one XA (extreme aspherical) element, supported by two ED glass elements, two Super ED glass elements and one ED aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberration. Sony’s Nano AR Coating II further suppresses flare and ghosting for cleaner images. Autofocus performance is driven by four XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors that boost AF speed by up to 4x compared to the previous model and improve AF tracking while zooming by approx. 30%, making continuous AF and tracking more reliable for fast-moving subjects in both photos and movies. The design also reduces focus breathing, focus shift when zooming and axis shift when zooming to enhance motion shooting. Quiet operation is achieved through the XD Linear Motors and a new aperture drive unit. The lens features separate control rings for focus, zoom and iris, with a click on/off switch for the aperture ring, and includes Sony’s Linear Response MF for responsive, repeatable manual focusing. Built with magnesium alloy barrel components and a refined layout, this is the world’s lightest* 70-200mm F2.8 zoom lens at just 2.3 lb. (1045 grams), approx. 29% lighter than the previous model, with a constant barrel length and improved balance for agile handling. High-performance 1.4x and 2x teleconverters are compatible and available separately.
