Politics and Urban Growth in Santiago, Chile, 1891-1941 is a hardcover book by Professor of History Richard J Walter, SKU sku-3137519, in the Latin American History Books category. It is the first study focused on this period in Santiago, Chile's capital and largest and most important city.

The city grew rapidly through urbanization, industrialization, administrative expansion and extensive internal migration, with significant social and economic consequences. Drawing on original research, the book examines its demographic and physical growth and the local administration's role.

Urban political histories of Chile and Latin America are relatively rare, and the study addresses both gaps. Topics include how Chile's multiparty system affected local government, corruption in city affairs, the municipality's relationship with powerful foreign interests, economic nationalism, and women's pioneering roles as voters and elected officials in the capital.
