No rating yet(0 reviews)Isaac Vincent Joslin's hardcover Afrofuturisms: Ecology, Humanity, and Francophone Cultural Expressions is listed in All Books as sku-1916193160 and in the Ohio RIS Africa Series. It reads Francophone African literature and other cultural works through Afrofuturism.
The book considers how fantastical elements in African expression can be read as science fiction, including utopian and dystopian visions grounded in African mythologies, cosmologies and philosophies. Joslin examines films, novels, short stories, plays and poems.
He discusses gender identity and cultural plurality, then considers how language and storytelling process the trauma of colonial and neocolonial violence. The book also examines how media shape ideas of success, belonging and exclusion, alongside alternative mythologies of commonality and solidarity.
It considers education and collective identity under globalization, the effects of market-driven violence on cultural and social autonomy, and an egalitarian, ecological approach to human and natural diversity.
