Built around a full-frame FX-format 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor and powered by the EXPEED 7 image processor, the Z5 II delivers increased sensitivity, refined image rendering, and rapid AI-enhanced autofocus. It supports full-resolution continuous shooting up to 30 fps for action capture. Native ISO sensitivity spans 100–64000 and can be expanded to ISO 50–204800 for extreme lighting scenarios. Autofocus and subject recognition benefit from algorithms and deep learning carried over from the Z9. The camera includes Subject Detection covering nine distinct subject types (including a dedicated Bird Detection mode) and will automatically detect, focus on, and track these subjects when using Auto-Area AF to keep moving targets sharp across the frame. Video capabilities have been upgraded as well: UHD 4K recording is available up to 60 fps, while Full HD can be recorded up to 120 fps. Recording sessions can run for up to two hours, and the camera offers a video self-timer plus built-in electronic Vibration Reduction. Movie files may be written to the in-camera memory cards or routed out via HDMI to an optional external recorder. Note on software: the supplied software is compatible only with Windows operating systems. macOS users can still run it by installing Windows through virtualization or dual-boot solutions — for example, Parallels Desktop (paid subscription) or Boot Camp Assistant (free) — and there are several other free alternatives available.
