The Nikon D850 pairs very high resolution with fast performance to serve stills photographers and multimedia creators alike. At its core is a new 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor that, thanks to its back-illuminated design, captures increased detail and clarity in low-light situations. The sensor works with the EXPEED 5 image processor to deliver both high image quality and responsive operation. Performance highlights include a 7 fps continuous shooting rate sustained for up to 51 consecutive frames and an expandable ISO range from 32 to 102400. For video, the D850 records 4K UHD using either a DX crop or the full width of the full-frame sensor, and it also offers an 8K time-lapse recording option. Additional specialized capture modes are provided for digitizing film negatives and for focus stacking workflows. Autofocus duties are handled by the advanced Multi-CAM 20K 153-point AF system, a module that first appeared on the Nikon D5. Within this array are 99 cross-type sensors, giving refined focusing accuracy across a range of lighting conditions. Overall, the D850 is designed as a versatile, high-resolution DSLR that supports speed, movie production, time-lapse projects, and demanding low-light work. Note: the supplied software is compatible only with Windows operating systems. Mac users can still run the software by installing Windows via virtualization or dual-boot tools such as Parallels Desktop (paid) or Boot Camp Assistant (free), and there are several other free alternatives available.
