Odoric Y K Wou Mobilizing the Masses | sku-24756606
No rating yet(0 ratings)Odoric Y K Wou's Mobilizing the Masses is a hardcover study of Communist efforts to build support for revolution in Henan from 1925 to 1949. It follows the movement from cities to the countryside and back, through crises that began with the May 30th Movement, worsened after the Japanese invasion in 1937, and ended with the Communist victory in 1949.
The book examines workers, religious sectarians, rural elites, student intellectuals, the military, and peasants, along with the social forces that helped or constrained the movement. It considers how mobilization tactics changed in war zones, mountains, and floodplains and tests social science accounts of peasant-based revolution.
Wou attributes the victory to political maneuvering, the use of nationalist sentiment, and community and reform programs that won peasant support. He describes the movement as both a struggle for political power and a social revolution. Religion & Religious Studies Books; SKU sku-24756606.
