Later, she planned parks for newly mobile vacationers and gardens for housing developments intended to improve middle-class life. During the Depression, she worked as a landscape architect, planner, university lecturer, writer and professional speaker. She approached her projects with a sense of social responsibility. Although her office records were destroyed near the end of her career, Allaback draws on scrapbooks, photographs, drawings, planting plans and Cautley's writings.
