GoBuyPlants US Hardiness Zones Mahonia sku-14975706304

GoBuyPlants Mahonia bealei, sold in a 3 gal pot, is an evergreen shrub native to Western China. Its upright, tiered stems carry leathery olive-green leaves with spined edges. Fragrant Yellow flowers bloom in spring, followed by waxy blue-black berries. It grows 4' - 10’ tall and 3' - 8' wide, with 6’ spacing, in US Hardiness Zones 7 - 9.

It tolerates full sun, part sun or full shade; part sun and moist, well-drained acidic soil are preferred. It tolerates salt and drought but is considered invasive in the southeast. Its seasons of interest are spring, fall and year-round. Maintenance is low, though suckers should be removed as they appear unless naturalization is wanted.

Uses include accents, group plantings, borders, woodland and naturalized areas, native gardens, foundation plantings and hedges. Suggested companions are magnolia, pieris and rhododendron. Plants may vary from the images shown.
