William Minor Jazz Musical Instruction sku-29648581

William Minor's Jazz Journeys to Japan, listed under Musical Instruction as sku-29648581, combines music history, cultural reflection and travel writing. Described as the first book to address individual Japanese jazz players' experiences, it covers Toshiko Akiyoshi, Masahiko Satoh, Makoto Ozone and Yosuke Yamashita.

Interviews with musicians, critics and producers explore Western music alongside Japanese tradition. Minor challenges the view that Japanese jazz artists do not swing and writes about his growing appreciation of Japanese culture alongside the players' discovery of American jazz.

His earlier books include Unzipped Souls: A Jazz Journey through the Soviet Union and Monterey Jazz Festival: Forty Legendary Years. He has written for Downbeat, Jazz Times, Jazz Notes, Coda and Swing Journal. This edition is a hardcover.
