Smart carrier functionality: The drive uses HPE smart carriers to expose critical management and status information to the host system. Multiple system status LED icons and a spinning activity ring provide visible indications of data-writing and operational state. A blue LED hidden behind the handle can be turned on remotely to help locate a specific tray, and a lit do-not-remove icon on the tray’s eject button warns when removing the drive would risk data loss. Helium-filled design benefits: Unlike traditional sealed drives that contain air (which can create turbulence and vibration limiting storage density), this helium drive uses gas that is 1/7th as dense as air. The lower density reduces internal turbulence and drag, allowing the read/write mechanism to operate more precisely and enabling platters to be spaced closer together to increase capacity in the same form factor.
