Overview: The HPE FlexFabric 5940 32QSFP+ delivers a high-density, data-center-ready Top-of-Rack switching solution with built-in analytics. Designed for scalable 10/40/100GbE ToR deployments, this 1RU switch is part of the FlexFabric 5940 Series and comes with HPE FlexFabric Network Analytics to provide deep visibility into microburst congestion when used with the HPE IMC Virtual Application Networking Fabric Manager. Deployment options and ports: The 5940 family supports multiple port configurations to fit different ToR needs: 48 x 10GbE (SFP or BASE-T) with 6 x 40GbE ports; 48 x 10GbE (SFP or BASE-T) with 6 x 100GbE ports; and the 32 x 40GbE configuration found in this model. Modular variants are also available: a 2-slot version providing 2 x 40GbE ports and a 4-slot version offering 4 x 40GbE ports. Performance: Engineered for demanding data-center workloads, the 5940 Series provides up to 2.56 Tbps switching capacity and supports up to 1904 MPPS forwarding performance. It delivers low latency—under 1 µs for 40GbE links—to maximize throughput for latency-sensitive applications. Virtualization and programmability: The switch supports VXLAN for overlay and network virtualization use cases and includes the Open vSwitch Database (OVSDB) for dynamic VXLAN tunnel management, enabling flexible software-defined networking deployments. Resilience and uptime: Running Comware 7, the 5940 Series leverages HPE Intelligent Resilient Fabric (IRF) with convergence times under 50 msec to speed application responsiveness. In Service Software Update (ISSU) capability allows software upgrades to occur without requiring a reboot or power cycle, helping maintain continuous availability. Management and total cost of ownership: The platform can reduce switch management complexity—up to 88% when using a 9-unit IRF—while keeping licensing straightforward: a single license per switch covers all OS features.
