Snapshots of the Past was founded in 2001 and says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections concerning American cultural history. Other available reproductions include holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display at home or work or as gifts.
