Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last for generations.

Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass-produced poster prints possible. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; that work laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage.

The company also offers historical holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco as decor or gifts. SKU: sku-13300965691. UPC: 469461724373.
