The brand restores historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives for home decor. Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Printing techniques made inexpensive mass production of posters possible; lithography was invented in 1796. In 1989, the Library of Congress American Memory pilot project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995. The program digitizes selected Library collections that emphasize the complex history of American cultural heritage. The reproductions use fine-art and archival papers from respected brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can be enjoyed for a lifetime and passed down through generations. Other print subjects include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, along with early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Retro-style posters can add elegance to a home, study or workplace and make gifts.
