The image shows three businessmen, possibly at a conference: an unidentified Lockheed official, Lockheed president Robert E. Gross and Glenn Martin. The company reproduces historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives using archival paper and pigmented inks.
Founded in 2001, it says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproductions. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography was invented in 1796, allowing inexpensive mass-produced prints.
A Library of Congress pilot called American Memory began in 1989 and laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections concerning American cultural history. The company's other subjects include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
Its prints can be displayed at home or work and given as gifts; the archival materials are intended to last for generations.
