Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives for home decor. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers.

It was selected as a vendor for a White House redecoration project in 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of prints. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections focused on the complexity of American cultural heritage.

The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper, and prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last for generations. The range also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. These retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
