Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photographs and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using fine-art archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last for generations. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, a technique that enabled inexpensive mass production of prints, was invented in 1796.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history. The company's range also includes vintage holiday posters and early aerial views of cities.
