Snapshots of the Past's The sailor's return is a Black Wall Art print, size L, measuring 16" x 20" (sku-13262215248; UPC 467063065474). The company makes reproductions of historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives using archival paper and pigmented inks.

Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. It reports sales through over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers, and says it was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced prints inexpensive.

A Library of Congress pilot project called American Memory began in 1989 and laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections on American cultural history. The company's range also includes old holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco for display or gifts.
