Snapshots of the Past makes historical maps, photos and prints for home decor, including reproductions restored from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, the company was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of poster prints. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections emphasizing the complexity of American cultural heritage.

The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper from respected brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. The range also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and retro-style posters for homes, studies or workplaces that can be given as gifts.
