The company restores historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives and produces reproductions on fine-art archival paper with pigmented inks, intended to last for generations. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.
Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass-produced posters possible.
The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; that project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections documenting American cultural heritage.
The company's other retro prints include Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, offered for display at home or work or as gifts.
