The prints are intended for home, study or workplace display and as gifts. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproductions. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass-produced prints possible. In 1989, the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project; the National Digital Library Program followed in 1995 to digitize selected collections documenting American cultural history. Archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to let the prints last a lifetime and be passed down through generations.

The company's subjects also include holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
