The company restores historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives and makes reproductions with archival paper and pigmented inks, which it says can last a lifetime and be passed down.

Founded in 2001, it says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers; it was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, a technique that enabled inexpensive mass printing, was invented in 1796.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections about American cultural heritage. The company also offers historical posters and early aerial views of cities as prints for display or gifts.
